I haven't had much luck reaching my old friend and mentor lately, you've probably heard that he's been fighting a serious health battle, and the bad winter in OH, but he did make a post on paintball4all.com recently ...
" Safe and Merry Christmas to all!
Just wanted to drop by and wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas this holiday season. Please take very good care of yourselves and I hope that 2010 will bring everyone a better year than 2009.
I talked to Marty las night on the phone and we will be doing one to two events together in 2010. We are looking at the end of April and perhaps a second event in September depending on how the first event goes.
I know there are a lot of caring people and well wishers in our family of players in CA and the rest of the left coast that are praying for me and I want to thank all of you very much for keeping me in your thoughts.
As a quick update, I have closed down my paintball field in OH since I can no longer manage or run it. I REFUSE to let BlackCat go however. Karen and I have been producing scenario events for well over 10 years now and I have been involved in this sport for close to 25. As hard as it was to close down my field after the THOUSANDS of man hours I put into it, it would be much harder to not have BlackCat and come out to the left coast to visit at least once.
With that said, I will only be doing 4-5 events next year. Two will be at my secondary field in New Mexico and our hopes are to do 2 with Marty at TAAG.
Currently the BlackCat website is still pulled down but I will be re-launching it some time in the middle of January with dates and titles for 2010.
My treatment has been hard on me to the point that I had to stop it for the past couple of months due to the adverse reaction my body suffered from it. However, I have very good physicians, a loving wife and a positive mind set that all will be fine. I have decided to allow my body to recoupe from all that poison, I mean medicine, they have been pumping into it.
On the bright side, you will see a much thinner Spiro in April. I guess that is the more "favorible" outcome.
Thank you all again for all your well wishes and prayers and I look forward to getting back in the saddle again soon and becoming more active in the paintball community as I once was. Even though the days of me playing are most definately gone I will be there to produce quality events for everyone to enjoy.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukka and Happy New Year! "
